A story about a young boy, Shinichirou Fukuouji, who barged into a university where Naruaki Narusawa, a physical science lecturer, is teaching, and asked for his help. What help? Speak to his dog, Flappy. Narusawa refused, dismissing Shinichirou's request as some kid's hallucination from too much manga reading. But after Flappy dragged Shinichirou straight to Narusawa's house, Narusawa couldn't refuse anymore, especially since Shinichiro'd seen his black cat, Aft, who could speak in human language.
Shinichirou then regularly visited Naruaki to get him to teach how to speak with animals, although most of the time he just spent the time talking to Aft (and getting to know Naruaki better). As Shinichirou learned more about animals, he started to feel animals watching him from everywhere, particularly one crow, and began to get frightened.
A great animal-human series, where their relationship is explored along with the growth of the human emotions. There's hardly anything that you'd call romantic expressions - I'd probably say more to a deep care towards someone, not your younger brother, not your kid. Love, but not in sexual way, at least, not yet.
